Sri Lankan couples — two languages, one small community

The Sri Lankan community here is small, split across two languages, and unusually international — a larger share of it lives outside the island than for any other group in this series except the Mauritians.
Two communities, or one
Sinhala- and Tamil-speaking members are distinct communities with separate histories, and on this platform they generally filter by language rather than by nationality.
In the diaspora that separation is often sharper than on the island, because migration patterns differed: Tamil migration to Canada and the UK from the 1980s onwards was on a very different scale and for very different reasons than Sinhala migration to Australia and the Gulf.
Members are generally clear about which community they are looking for, and stating it plainly is normal rather than pointed.
Colombo and the island
Colombo holds effectively all of the resident community. It is small, cautious and almost entirely conversation-based, with a notable share of members working abroad and returning periodically.

Toronto, London, Melbourne
Toronto holds the largest Sri Lankan Tamil population outside the island — Scarborough and Markham especially — and it is the most active part of the community.
London has substantial populations in Harrow, Wembley and the south-east, both communities represented.
Melbourne and Sydney hold a largely Sinhala community, younger on average and more openly social.
The Gulf and Italy hold significant working populations, with the same skew towards individuals rather than couples seen in other communities there.
What makes it work here
The community is small enough that a platform which cannot filter by language is effectively useless — you are looking for a few hundred people scattered across five countries, not a general pool.
Because so much of the community is diaspora, cross-border contact is more normal here than for most groups: couples in Toronto and Colombo talking regularly, and meeting when someone travels, is an ordinary pattern rather than an exception.

Is the community big enough to find anyone?
It is small, and concentrated in Toronto, London, Melbourne and Colombo. Filtering by language rather than browsing generally is what makes it workable.
Do Sinhala and Tamil members interact?
Some do, many prefer not to, and stating a preference is normal and uncontroversial here.
