Pakistani couples — why discretion here is not optional

7 min read · Updated 3 August 2026 · Adults only, 18+

This article is more cautious than the others in this series, deliberately. The legal and social position for Pakistani couples — particularly those inside Pakistan — is materially more serious than for most communities on this platform, and pretending otherwise would be a disservice to the people it most affects.

The legal position inside Pakistan

Extramarital sexual conduct is criminalised in Pakistan under the Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance 1979 and related provisions. This is not a theoretical restriction, and the consequences of a complaint — including one made maliciously — can be severe.

Separately, the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 governs online material, and its scope is broad.

We are not able to give legal advice, and nobody should rely on a website for it. What we can say plainly is that members inside Pakistan face a genuinely different level of risk from members in London or Toronto, and should weigh that for themselves.

What that means in practice

The Pakistani community on platforms like this is real, established and extremely careful. Norms that are good practice elsewhere are non-negotiable here: no faces in public photographs, no identifying details, no reuse of usernames, and no moving to a personal messaging number early.

Conversations run for months rather than weeks. Verification carries more weight than in any other community, because the cost of a fake profile is not embarrassment — it is exposure with legal consequences.

Blackmail attempts specifically target this community for exactly that reason. Our guide on sextortion is worth reading before anything else, and its central advice holds: do not pay, preserve the evidence, and tell someone.

The diaspora

The UK holds the largest and most established Pakistani community — Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, Bradford and West Yorkshire, and London. Mostly Punjabi- and Urdu-speaking, and socially dense enough that discretion remains the norm despite the legal freedom.

The Gulf has a very large Pakistani expatriate population, particularly in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Local law and workplace consequences both apply; expatriates can face residency consequences that citizens do not.

North America — Toronto, New York, Houston and the Bay Area — is where the community is most open, and where most organised social contact happens.

Culture, honestly

The gap between what is publicly acknowledged and what privately exists is wider in this community than in most, and that gap is itself the source of the risk. It also means that when Pakistani couples do find each other here, the shared understanding is immediate in a way it never is with couples outside the culture.

The single most important norm: what you learn about another member stays with you. Recognition without acknowledgement is the convention, and it is taken more seriously here than anywhere else on this platform.

Common questions

Is it safe to use a platform like this from inside Pakistan?

It carries real risk, legal and social, that we cannot remove. What we can do is minimise exposure — verification, private albums, metadata stripping and no public faces. Anyone inside Pakistan should assess that risk for themselves, and take local legal advice if the circumstances warrant it.

Why do Pakistani members ask for so much before meeting?

Because the consequences of getting it wrong are worse. Extended conversation and video verification are the norm, and are not a reflection on you.

What should I do if someone threatens to expose me?

Do not pay. Preserve the messages, block, report to us, and tell someone you trust — silence is the only leverage a blackmailer has. See our guide on sextortion and scams.
